Takoradi Route

Postby Mandy Gulley » Mon Apr 24, 2017 3:52 am

My father talked about working the Takoradi Route during the war. He was an engineer who worked on the planes. Does anyone have more information about how exactly the route worked and what his job might have entailed. I know he said he went to Cairo and for a while also worked at El Ballah.

I can find a couple of extensive Google references that mention Takoradi.

That's a thread on the topic of the Takoradi route.

This is a Wikipedia article on an air ferry route and Takoradi is mentioned a couple of times - whether that route is the Takoradi route, I don't know, I didn't read the whole thing.

Have a look at those 2 links for starters. Whether your GF checked planes over as they landed (ground crew), or flew in them as a flight engineer, is something that probably only his service records might show. One of the utterly necessary background heroes, I suspect.
