Ann Wilkinson

Postby JoyS » Sat Apr 22, 2017 2:53 am

My husband's 3xg grandfather was Thomas Henry Wilkinson. He was born in 1789 and married Ann Williams in 1810, in the Parish of St James, Westminster, London, England. He died in 1824 in Calcutta, India.

Their son Charles was born in 1812, and came to Australia in 1833.

I have been unable to find any trace of Ann after Thomas Henry's death, either as Ann Williams or Ann Wilkinson. Thomas Henry was a purser with the East India Company, and was on board a ship in Calcutta when he died. Would Ann and her son have been in India too?

I can find no record of her remarrying.

Hi Ciderdrinker,
Thank you so much for your reply, which has advanced my research considerably. Charles Wilkinson was appointed Clerk of the NSW Treasury in 1836 and was married three times. I have all three of his marriage certificates and none of them have any information about his parents. You have given me much to add to the little I knew.

Hi

I just found these posts searching for information on Thomas Henry Wilkinson who is my 4th great-grandfather.

This has been very helpful.

I can't find Louisa's marriage but the mother and father of Jessie Hunt are William Hunt and Ellen Wilkinson who married 11.12.1836 St John's Lambeth wit Eliza Dunham and ?

I believe the other witness name on the Bann is maybe a J... Hunt (John?)

I would like help if possible with finding more information about Harry Hunt the son of William and Ellen Hunt.

The last information we have is the death of Annie Hunt (wife of Harry Hunt) in West Maitland NSW. Then we pick up his son Henry Montague Hunt married in Brisbane in 1898.

Cheers

Is this the death you are referring to?
4460/1869 HUNT ANNIE; parents: THOMAS A, HANNAH, WEST MAITLAND
(She died 15 Aug 1869, per note in SMH)

I'm guessing she may have died in childbirth as note these births:
HUNT ERNEST A; 503/1866 ; HARRY, ANNIE, SYDNEY
HUNT HARRY M A; 641/1867; HARRY, ANNIE, SYDNEY
HUNT WALTER E; 13238/1869; HARRY, ANNIE, MAITLAND

I was going to do a search in Trove - the wonderful resources of digitised newspapers provided by the National Library of Australia - but it seems the site is down at the moment.
There's a Harry Hunt of the right age dying in 1911:
First name(s) Harry
Last name Hunt
Birth year 1839
Death year 1911
Age at death 72Y
Registration district Newtown,
Reg No: 15723
State New South Wales
Clearly, the informant did not know the names of Harry's parents. Checked Ryerson Index, but there doesn't appear to be a published death notice for this man.

Hi
I'm guessing she may have died in childbirth as note these births:
HUNT ERNEST A; 503/1866 ; HARRY, ANNIE, SYDNEY
HUNT HARRY M A; 641/1867; HARRY, ANNIE, SYDNEY
HUNT WALTER E; 13238/1869; HARRY, ANNIE, MAITLAND

Yes, Annie died sadly 5 days after the birth of Walter. Walter was taken back to Sydney and looked after by a Mrs Ann Pring (who we don't know the relationship). Harry born in 1867 (who is Harry Montague Hunt but uses Henry) fortunately survived and that's why I'm here :). I have been working with the Maitland Family history society thinking that Harry Hunt stayed there with son Harry but I can't find anything until Harry (Son) get married in Brisbane.

We have the death certificate of the Harry you mentioned but we don't think it's out Harry as the other details on the transcript don't seem to line up.

Cheers

Forgot to meant that Walter dies in the care of Mrs Pring later in the year.

Not sure how else to try and trace the steps of Harry?
