Thorngreen

I am searching for any information about Ellen Thorngreen, who was previously Ellen Tobin nee Cleary. She is recorded on the 1911 census living in Liverpool with her son Joseph & then both disappear. There is also another son William John who disappears after the 1901 census. Any help would be appreciated. The 2 sons were Thorngreens. There were 3 step children & 5 or 6 who died in infancy.

Hi,
I noticed that Ellen was Catholic, I know that sometimes Catholic records aren't always fully transcribed or published, as I have found out in my own personal research.
I did have a good look for you, including wildcard searches, maybe this is why William and Ellen aren't showing up?

I'm sure if I'm wrong there will be someone here who can come up with the answers.

Alex.

Joseph's baptism says he was born 9 October 1897
There's a Joseph Tobin in the 1939 Register, one year out
55 Ellison Street, Liverpool
Joseph Tobin, born 9th Oct 98, Married, Ships Scaler
Elizabeth Tobin, 15th Mar 06, Married, Unpaid Domestic Duties
closed record

I notice the original query has been edited after the first two replies.
Birth, Dec 1890 Liverpool 8b 49
Thorngreen, William John
mother Cleary

Possible death? Dec 1933 Liverpool 8b 92
Tobin, William John
age 43

If they did change the name from Thorngreen to Tobin, there are a couple of possibilities for Ellen.

Thanks for the replies. I have checked 3 deaths for Ellen Tobin but none are the right one. I can't see why the boys would change to Tobin as their father was Thorngreen & Ellen's 1st husband,Tobin, dies in the early 1880s a long time before theses 2 sons were born.

Sometimes names were changed for all manner of reasons, I've been helping a friend with her family tree recently and I discovered that one of her distant grandmothers had a daughter between the death of her first husband and the marriage of her second husband, she'd moved from Oxfordshire to Northamptonshire and the daughter was born in the latter and baptised as the daughter of the deceased, even though everything points towards her being a daughter of the second husband.
Sometimes they had something to hide for all kinds of reasons.
