Herbert Stanley Sharp(e)

Postby Dawn Simpkins » Tue Apr 11, 2017 11:40 am

Hello
I have been searching for Herbert Stanley Sharp (a Canadian) for a number of years. I have got a wedding certificate from 1919 that shows he was 25 and married Dorothy Tooth age 22 the witnesses were Samuel Aimers and Arthur Jones.
2 weeks ago I found a newspaper report from 1920 reporting Derby Borough Police Court Herbert Stanley Sharp was a homeless labourer and was charged with stealing. It states that during the war he served in the Canadian Army and he was Canadian by birth.

Appear to have had a son, Donald Tooth, born June quarter 1920 in Burton-upon-Trent area.
Checked Canadian Soldiers website and couldn't find Herbert Stanley Sharp or Sharpe.

Thank you for your help.

I have already got the information about Donald and spoke to him a few years ago but he knew nothing of his father apart from being told he was a Canadian soldier and he returned to Canada around 1922/23. I have looked at many Canadian records but cannot locate a Herbert Stanley Sharp (e).

What was his father's name and occupation on the marriage certificate?

I can't help with your enquiry directly but I see that Ancestry are offering free access to Commonwealth records over the Easter weekend. If (like me) you only have a UK subscription, this might be an opportunity to dig around some Canadian records.

Sorry Ianbee I have not been available for a little while. I see you have got the name Alfred Sharp deceased, Carpenter.
Also on the marriage cert Herbert is noted as a Farmer however 5 months later on the birth cert he is noted as Railway Fireman.

Thanks Dawn
