General Register Search

Apologies if this way of searching has been mentioned.

After registering at the General Register Office you can search births after 1837 and it will give the mother's maiden name.

At the moment up to about 1912 the maiden name is not mentioned so with a fairly popular name it is difficult to know whether they are the right family.

You can only search two years at a time and have to choose male or female, I have been able to find a lot of missing children as mentioned by the family in the 1911 Census. If you still want the certificate you have a good chance it will be the right one, can get digitzed ones cheaper.

Thanks for this! It might have been mentioned already, but I have not seen that post.

Didn't even think to look for a resource like this, but I think that I could really be able to use it for my research.

Much appreciated.
