This is my father's army number I'm unable to trace him. I think he was in a holding unit before he was sent to RE. Can anyone help me find more information. Thank you in anticipation.

You can't find anything for the simple reason that all the detailed records are held by the Ministry of Defence.

You can apply to the MoD for his paperwork providing you can satisfy certain criteria.

Thank you for your help. I queried it because I can't find his name on forces war records and thought at least his name would be there. I have been told that some records were destroyed during the 2bd ww by bombing in London.

The only Army personnel records that were destroyed during WW2 were pre 1920 - so far as I know - and in archive storage. Your father's records - judging by his number - will be much later than that, so hopefully safe - accidents aside.

The question of what's on Forces War Records is interesting. They didn't have a good reputation when they first came on the scene because they weren't clear to people what they held. However, the last time I went on the site, they are much, much clearer on what they have. But, so far as I know, their post WW1 data is still patchy. It can't be anything else as the MoD holds the only full lists of military personnel and they are, effectively, still live records. So far as I can see, FWR only have access to stuff that is in the public domain and that is usually driven by a single topic - for instance, a single regiment might have decided to publish the names of its personnel in a particular campaign and that might be on FWR - I'm not saying that it is, just giving some ideas. So there are plenty of post WW1 names on there, but no complete list of everyone across the Army.

Hi Starlone
C3 category was "only suitable for sedentary work". Hope that helps.
