Wives of John Flint

Postby FlintK » Mon Mar 20, 2017 2:58 pm

Hello,
I'm trying to find out what happened to the two wives of John Flint. First Rosa Mary Heaver married 1876 in Southwark. Last found on 1881 census aged 22 in Fulham. Second Rosina Usherwood married 1891 also Southwark. Last found on 1911 census aged 42 Clapham. John and his wives never appeared together on any census. John born 1858 died 1898. Grateful for any help.

I don't know how relevant this is to John's apparent absences from censuses, but a John Flint b1858 in Mickleham, Surrey, father's name Thomas, joined the Army (Connaught Rangers) in 1882.

Hello,
Thanks for the reply. I have found John on all census , this record of him in the army just adds to the mystery as I don't know why he joined up. At no time does he appear with either wife on any census. Plus on all of them he is shown as either single or unmarried and when he married Rosina he stated that he was a bachelor.

Is it possible he married Rosa Mary, realised it was a mistake, joined the Army, then married Rosina in 1891 as a bachelor, Rosa Mary having been quietly forgotten? Unfortunately, may be worth considering, as there doesn't seem to be a death for Rosa Mary, and if there was, John should be described as a widower on re-marriage.

Rosina seems to have married again, much later
Dec 1930 Wandsworth 1d 1246
Claxton, Robert F.
Flint, Rosina

Electoral registers have Robert Fuller Claxton and Rosina Claxton in Tooting/Streatham
1939
47 Idlecombe Road, Wandsworth
Robert F Claxton, born 3 June 1875, Married, Draughtsman (Iron founders)
Rosina Claxton, born 25 Nov 1869, Married, Unpaid Domestic Duties

Matches date of birth given in a school record (Harper Street School, Southwark)
Rosina Usherwood
b 25.11.69
admitted 27.2.82

Possible death?
June qtr 1950 Battersea 5c 82
Claxton, Rosina
age 80

Here's his death reg then
March 1898 Billericay 4a 291
Flint, John Charles
age 39

He died at Warley, but is not in Lunacy Patients Admission Registers, 1846-1912 on ancestry (not that I can see)
There are missing registers in 1895, 1896, which might explain that.

Thank you so much for your help on this. A fresh pair of eyes is always a help !! I knew of John William and also Henry Charles but not the other children. Henry must have emigrated to Canada as he was killed in WW1 I have his records just not sure when he emigrated.
