A quick update to say that I'm now up and running with FTM 2017 proper, having been a "test driver".

I'm perhaps a bit surprised how similar the overall look and feel is. Synchronising with Ancestry worked fine (probably quicker than before). The colour charting feature is very helpful - I've chosen to use it to highlight my direct ancestral lines. Other than that I can't see many differences so far.

The prime reason for upgrading from FTM 2014 was, of course, to retain the ability to synchronise with Ancestry.

When and where will I be able to buy this?

Thanks,

Pete.

Pete, I originally pre-ordered my upgrade in March and then got caught up in all the delays and snagging. As such I got the new version before it went on sale. I believe it's now on general sale - all the details of different options are here: https://support.mackiev.com/317487-FAMI ... LAUNCH-FAQ

(I have no connection to MacKiev or Ancestry other than being a satisfied customer!)

Apologies if this question has already been dealt with. I've been using FTM for a few years and had version 2014.1 installed. I haven't used it for quite some time and have been vaguely aware that it has been taken over by another compnay and so on. On loading it up today, for the first time in many months, I've noticed that it does not log into my Ancestry account as before, I get a no internet connection message, likewise if I try to 'go online'. Can somebody please confirm if this is due to the changes? I've never linked or synced my tree with Ancestry but it was nice to have the hints and so on.

Do I need to purchase the latest version if I still wish to do this? And if so will it function in the same way as before, being able to view Ancestry records and hints, but still keep my tee private? I would just like to be clear before forking out any money.

Thanks for any help offered

Helen, your understanding is all correct. FTM 2014.1 will no longer sync to Ancestry and you won't be able to log into your Ancestry account via FTM.

With FTM 2017 you can search Ancestry and there's a new "TreeSync" feature that synchronises your tree to Ancestry (if you wish). There's also a new function to search FamilySearch from within the software. As before you can save your tree on your own computer / laptop / external drive and keep everything entirely offline and private if you prefer.

Otherwise it's pretty much the same as before. I'd say it's more stable and things work a bit quicker than before. I'm very pleased, but I appreciate there are many other products out there.

Hi Janey,

Thanks very much for clarifying that. I thought that was the case but I've been somewhat out of the loop with developments with the program so it's nice to have it confirmed. I shall look into getting a copy of the new version,

Helen

Hi JanetH,

I purchased to online update to download and wish I hadn't.
I should of bought the CD but downloading via internet was a little cheaper.
I've spent £40 for nothing!
Not your fault but just want to make people aware I've spent good money and can't get FTM2017 onto my computer.

See attached pic I've taken of the problem whilst installing family tree maker 2017.

It talks about computer requirements but family tree maker 2017 didn't talk of any 'computer requirements.
