Just discovered that Ann may not have actually been Portuguese after all - her maiden name was Munro.
Still not able to find any more details of her though (parents or marriage) :-(

Soldiers often married widows or daughters of other soldiers in the same regiment, so Ann likely had a connection to the 4th Foot. In a campaign situation, perhaps she is more likely to be a widow. If you have access to the National Archives at Kew, you could look at the muster rolls for the 4th Foot to see if you can find a connection.
