Hi
No problem, Alison.
The Devine chap is just a possibility, I mentioned him just in case. But, you never know, we've seen stranger things and it's something to look into at any rate.
George Smith has given quite a lot of info, I wouldn't have thought all of it would be completely false. Something will turn up, I'm sure.

Hi
An oddity on the army sheet with George's kin details. As we know, the marriage to Olive May Harland is there, 11.8.1915, Sculcoates Register Office. We also know Olive came from Hull, presumably George met her there after his army recall.
Particulars of children -
Birth of son George Henry, 21.12.1915, Sculcoates. Which we can see in the GRO birth index, Dec qtr 1915, mother Harland.
(yes, only four months after the marriage!)

Fine, but before that it says
George Henry
born 18.10.1914, Brentford
In the date/place of baptism column it says, 4/12/14 ??, deceased, 21.1.1915

If this son was registered as Smith, possibly
Dec 1914 Brentford 3a 274
Smith, George Henry
mother Wilkinson

Must also point out that George's army attestation details include the fact that he was a Roman Catholic.

Great Ian I had looked at that child but clearly not hard enough, I will follow that up
I now have his death cert he died whilst visiting his daughter as she was evacuated in the war
I looked at the address and looked to see who was in the house in 1939 but the names don't ring any bells
His age tallies with a birth in 1881

I have just received the birth certificate of George's son mentioned on his army papers, this child was born and died prior to his marriage to olive Harland .
As per the attached certificate it would appear he was married prior but on his marriage to olive he was a batchelor.
Can anyone decipher if the maiden name is Wilkinson?
So far I have been unable to locate a marriage or a death for Annie, I assume as he married dec 1915 Annie must have died. The baby on this birth certificate died earky 1915
Thanks
Alison

Yes I think Wilkinson is a good fit for her former name.
