Thanks Ellen. Yes, having now discovered a fair number of 'villains', in several lines of my family, I did trip over this on another case.

But as more than one of my cases have shown, being sentenced to 'beyond the seas' did not necessarily mean transportation, if it proved inconvenient for the authorities. Also, later on, as transportation came close to ending, sentences of transportation tended only to be carried out for the 'lifers', and not for those with shorter sentences ~ it clearly was just not worth the hassle.
