Abbreviations and numbers on RAF Enlistment Form

Postby santanna » Sat Feb 04, 2017 7:05 am

My Dad enlisted in the RAF in July 1942. On his form it states Civil Occupation: Motor Fitter. Employer: Ind. O. 056.21. Dis, 123. Does anyone know what these abbreviations and letters mean?
If anyone has an Enlistment Form from the same era, does it give similar details or does it give an actual employers name?

I obtained useful information from the archives at the RAF Museum at Hendon. If you live in the London area, you could visit. If not you could make contact at www.rafmuseum.org.uk.

I tried emailing the Raf Museum, but my email came back to me as 'undelivered'. I'm in Australia so can't visit.

You could post a query on WW2Talk Forum which specialises in WW2
http://ww2talk.com/index.php.
There are a number of categories including "Searching for Someone & Military Genealogy".
You need to register first.
