Where did Ellen, James and Mary Welch go?

Postby vito74 » Mon Jan 23, 2017 8:26 pm

My third great uncle was on the 1881 census as a nephew. He was living with a Ellen Welch aged 41 and her two children James and Mary. Ellen must have been his aunt. The thing is I can not find them anymore other than the 1881 census. It could be a vital clue to find siblings to either Mary Dixon or John Grimes.

Just a wee point that may be relevant. Back then relationship titles were used less specifically than how we use them today. For example, on the 1881 census, my gt grandmother's youngest sister was staying with her and my gt grandfather. She is entered on the return as niece where, for the relationship to the head of the household, we would say sister-in-law. I have come across several instances where the relationships don't initially make sense to us.
