Thoresby Hall records

Postby Amazinggrace » Wed Jan 18, 2017 6:19 pm

I understand that my fathers elder brother,James Tennant Carruthers met his wife Phyllis(don't know surname) when they both worked at Thoresby hall in Notts. He was a chauffeur but don't know what she did.During their time at the hall they were involved in a motorcycle accident in which Phyllis lost a leg.
Would there be any employment records for Thoresby Hall and if so where would they be please?
thanks

Hello,
The estate records for Thoresby Hall are held at the University of Nottingham Library, in their Manuscripts and Special Collections. My husband's Grandfather worked as a groom at Thoresby from 1900 until 1926. A few years ago my husband and I spent an enjoyable day going through the records at the University library. We wouldn't have got up to the period you're interested in but we found quite a number of references to Grandad. He lived in a cottage on the estate and they had the rental agreements as well as employment records. You'd need to visit the Library though.
Rose.
