This is a family mystery that has yet to be solved.

My Uncle was Herbert George Atkins, born 21st March 1922 in Brentford, Middlesex.

He told the story about how when he was in the army (during World War II) that he was put into military prison. For what, no one knows, but one story that was told to me was that after the Italians changed sides in the war that he refused to salute an Italian officer. Maybe this is true, but I have found no military records of him what so ever.

Can someone point m in the right direction?

His records will be held by the Ministry of Defence. However, there are all sorts of restrictions on what can be passed out to whom and when (depending on when he was born and when he died).

I don't know if that sort of data would be permitted to go to anyone other than the next of kin - or even if it would be kept beyond a certain date anyway.

He died in 1998 and his son is still alive and is interested.

Who would his son contact and what information might he have to supply?
