I am having great difficulty in tracing my GreatGrandfather, James Nelson..born abt 1841 Belfast Ireland.. He was apparently born in Shankill Belfast, father James Nelson a Publican..I do not know who his mother was or siblings...
He joined the "Buffs" 3rd Regiment of Kent in 1858. Limerick Ireland and was sent to Malta in 1859 where after one year he was court Martialed in 1860 for shooting at his superior officer ( not killed) and Sentenced to ten years Transportation to Perth Western Australia, in 1861..
I have all his information on the Australian end but cant get any on the Irish side...
On his convict papers it stated that as a convicted person all NOK were eraced...which makes it very difficult for me to trace his origins.... I need someone to help me please...Dalek
