It says there was a wreath from
W. Lees, and Emily, Margaret, and Harold Mallion, Fen Ditton

The only Harold Mallion in Cambridgeshire seems to be this one
Birth, Mar 1912 Chesterton 3b 786
Mallion, Harold Arthur
mother Lees

So his parents marriage should be
June 1909 Chesterton 3b 1017
Lees, Rosa
Mallion, John Samuel

They are in Fen Ditton in 1911, and both aged 24
Birth, Sep 1887 Chesterton 3b 466
Lees, Rosa
mother Hancock

Rosa appears to be in Fen Ditton in 1891, age 3 (piece 1281 folio 65 page 12)
Parents are William and Sarah. Two sisters, one of whom is called Emily, a brother Harold, and a great aunt, Mary Casbourn, 83, is with them.

Only marriage I can find is in Cheshire!
Wirral June 1881 8a 616
Hancock, Sarah
Lees, William
at Bebington, Cheshire, 27 April 1881. Sarah's father John Hancock (same as your Francis?)

In the 1871 and 1881 census there is a Sarah Hancock in Fen Ditton, age 7 and then 18, and she is niece to Mary Casburn
Hopefully her birth reg is
Dec 1863 Chesterton 3b 480
Hancock, Sarah
mother Collier
although this makes her a year or two younger than the age given for Sarah Lees in the census returns.

May be a baptism of Sarah in Fen Ditton in 1863, parents John and Sarah.
sdup26 wrote:There's a baptism for a Francis Hancock (no middle name given at baptism) 6th Oct 1865, Fen Ditton, Cambridgeshire, parents John (a labourer) and Sarah.

and presumably your Francis birth reg is
Dec 1865 Chesterton 3b 460
Hancock, Francis
mother Collier

So this all seems to point to that wreath from Fen Ditton coming from relations of your own Francis, who was also from Fen Ditton?

Hiya ianbee, sadly there was at least 3 families of Hancock in Fen Ditton in he 1850s onwards, and all had hoards of kids. The fashion of naming John/Sarah/William/Ann and loads more, all boringly same names, doesn't help us detectives!

I'm not questioning what has been found regarding Ellen/Orpha on the Electoral Register but am puzzled how this could be so in the years prior to women being allowed to vote. It wasn't until the Representation of the People Act 1918 that women over 30 years were allowed to vote provided they met a property qualification. Women aged 21+ couldn't vote until 1928. Does anyone have the answer?

Good Morning diggers, and I hope 2017 was good for you!
After much work/digging throughout this past (almost) year, I've reached the conclusion that Francis Hancock in Bedfordshire IS the correct Hancock. I believe he was a Bigamist; I think he married Edith in 1904, their child being born (registered) 3rd quarter of 1904.

Francis Hancock appeared in the 1901 Census with Orpha (wife 1)
Orpha Hancock described as 'Widow' in the 1911 census
Francis Hancock appeared in the 1911 census with Edith (wife 2).

I'me not looking for their child, Arthur William.

Happy Monday, and...
THANK YOU ALL
xx
