Brick Wall!

Postby LJayne03 » Fri Nov 25, 2016 6:48 pm

I've hit a complete Brick Wall with researching my surname, I've got my 4th great-grandfather Richard Eaton 19 Sep 1803 - 7 Dec 1888
And I've found his wife Elizabeth Wass abt 1803 - 1867
But I can't figure out any further back

I think his father is a William, but by the 1841 census Richard has a family of his own and so this doesn't help with me tracing his father. Ancestry isn't throwing up any hints for me and I'm stuck on where to go next as I'm still fairly new to all this

Hello,

Are you looking for Richard Eaton in Lincoln? If so.....

I found this record for Richard Eaton baptised 19th September 1803 in Heckington, Lincoln, which confirms parents as William and Mary.

Possibly the marriage of William Eaton to Mary Lader on 3rd Jun 1802 at Swineshead in Lincoln could be them? Alternative would be 1st Dec 1795 in Grantham, William to Mary Dewey.

Let me know if the right Richard?

Yes, that's the right Richard!

And I had William and Mary, but as you say there's a couple of options and I'm unsure which is correct

Just to let you know, I live in Lincoln.
Heckington and Swineshead are both villages between Sleaford and Boston in Lincolnshire.
Hope that helps.

The 1841 census isn't a lot of help, as it doesn't specify place of birth (just county), but in 1851, Richard says he was born in Heckington, so it's very likely his parents were William and Mary, as per the 19/9/1803 Heckington baptism found by Itough80. You probably know that Richard, Elizabeth and their family are living in King's Lynn, Norfolk, in 1851.

Thank you for looking sdup, I've found Richard after the census, it's his parents in struggling with, I've got William Eaton, and Mary as a wife, but I'm unsure which Mary and I'm struggling with dates for them, and definitely can't find anything before them
