Hi Stefano. Could you please supply more information?
Was Emily born in Islington in 1914 and was she residing there in 1939?
Do you know what her middle initial L stands for?
Regards John

Yes she was born in islington. She was with her mum in 7 Yeovil House on the 1939 register. L could have stood for Lillian.

Her middle name was Lily (new GRO birth index goes up to 1915, gives full names, and the maiden surnames of mothers pre 1911).

I'm afraid not. That is Emma Louisa Banks, born Lambeth, 1920. Married Alec Grimes in Battersea in 1941. After the death of her husband (in 1963) Emma must have remarried. On the 1939 Register all three names are noted for her - originally Banks, then Grimes, then Griffiths.
Emily Lydia Griffiths, who died 1975 is someone else altogether. Most likely a spinster as there is a baptism of an Emily Lydia Griffiths at St Andrew Lambeth in November 1901. Has the same birth date - 29 October 1901 - as on the death registration. The transcription of that birth date (20 Oct) on FreeBMD is wrong.

Emily Lily Grimes was born 8 July 1914, according to her 1939 Register entry.

Leonard George Grimes is my great uncle. He was born 24 September 1906. He is the older brother to my grandad.

Is that his widow Ivy Grimes living at number 4 Yeovil House, Islington? She was still listed there in 1965, after Ethel and Emily had gone from number 7.
Full name was Ivy Maud Grimes, nee Northrupt, born 17 February 1907. Died in Islington in 1981.
Ivy M. Grimes had been living at 2 Cairns House, Holloway Road. Her last appearance at that address in the electorals was in 1958. Then in the following year, 1959, Ivy Grimes has her first listing at 4 Yeovil House. The two addresses are not very far apart. So it could well be the same person.

Leonard and Ivy had several children, and one of them at least may still be alive. Have you tried to get in contact with that family? Someone may know what happened to Aunt Emily.
