Jacob and Elizabeth Marshall of Great Yarmouth.

Postby midshipman » Mon Nov 14, 2016 7:17 pm

I am continuing to research my Great Yarmouth family. I am stumped by a brother and sister and wondered if any member could help or advise.
Jacob Marshall 1807-1881 and Elizabeth Marshall nee Annison 1808-1890 had several children. I am getting nowhere with their son Jacob Marshall born 1828 and baptised 25th September 1828 who later served in the Merchant Navy and their daughter Elizabeth born 1834 in Great Yarmouth. They appear in censuses up till 1851 then I lose track of them.
Any help or advice will be appreciated.

Jacob and Elizabeth Marshall of Great Yarmouth.

I've had a little scout around and the only thing I have found that may be of help is under Dorset Crew Lists. On 3rd July 1867, the 'Belinda' was in Weymouth. On the crew list is a Jacob Marshall. May be your Jacob. I had difficulty downloading the image to find any more info as I am working on my i-pad but I'll have another try on my computer tomorrow. This was on Ancestry. I looked at Public member trees but those that have your Jacob do not have anything conclusive about him other than what you have.
Just had another quick look. Go to crewlist.org.uk. This site tells you which archives hold crew lists and which ports in different counties.

Many thanks brunes08.
Jacob's brother Isaac Nathaniel Marshall 1842-1896 died in Weymouth. Coincidence?

There's a marriage of an Elizabeth Marshall indexed in Yarmouth, Dec 1856, 4b 41. Marriage is not online, but spouse seems to be George Baker.
Lived in Yarmouth, George Baker being a builder, later a smack owner, born Frostenden, Suffolk. Lots of children (new GRO birth index gives mother's maiden name as Marshall)
Elizabeth was born around 1834 according to the census returns, so she might be a candidate.

Thanks to Ianbee I was able to build Elizabeth's tree using the Baker information. Sadly still have not found any further data regarding brother Jacob.

Still working on Jacob and trying to search through his mother's line. Unfortunately, I have not found his mother's parents. She was originally Elizabeth Annison born 1808 and married 3rd February 1827 in Gorleston, Suffolk. Went to local library yesterday to access the various genealogy websites without success. There is a Elizabeth Steward Annison baptised 1810 but don't believe she's my Elizabeth. Can any member please advise or guide.

I don't think pre 1813 baptisms for Gorleston are online, neither PRs or BTs. Despite what it says on FamilySearch Wiki, a search brings up just two or three results.
Nor does it look as though the LDS have filmed the registers.

I have Yarmouth & Gorleston family and so far have only found information at the archive in Norwich as very little is online at the moment. Norfolk FHS may be of help (Gorleston moves between Norfolk & Suffolk historically).

Many thanks Ianbee and coopernicola.
Joined Norfolk Family History Society yesterday. Gorleston is a problem as Norfolk/Suffolk border etc.
