John Ridout

Postby katebenn » Mon Oct 24, 2016 8:28 am

I'm trying to find the parents of John Ridout b1749 in Bourton, Dorset & baptised 1750 at Silton, Dorset; died 1829 in Purse Caundle - who I think are John & Mary Ridout probably also from Dorset.
I can't find their marriage or their baptisms either or deaths; for certain as there are many Ridouts in the area of Sherborne & Gillingham. Has anyone found details for Ridouts / Rideouts that might fit?

John Jr.'s baptismal record says his abode is Bourton like you mentioned.

His eldest sibling, Anne, was baptised in Silton in 1739.

A John Redwood (sic) married Mary Perrot of Borton (sic) in Gillingham in 1738.

www.opcdorset.org is a great free site for Dorset records and well worth a look.

Nothing jumped out at me when I looked for your Family but the baptism is listed in Silton in 1750 and confirms the parents as John and Mary.

Bourton and Silton are right on the Dorset border so it may be worth extending your search to neighbouring counties.

Interestingly there are 5 baptisms with parents John and Mary in Silton
Ann 24June 1739
Anne 3 April1743
Sarah 15 Sept 1745
John 6 Sept 1747
John 6 Feb 1750
So the first Ann and the first John presumably died in infancy, but I cannot find any burial records.

ianbee I think we need your research skills on this one.

Thanks for these - I too have found these baptisms but no burials at Silton.
Will keep looking.

Nice of you to say so, Sally!
I can't see burials for the other two children either.
A couple of years either side of 1749 there are about five or six John Ridout baptisms in Dorset, so can we be sure this is the right one?
