I agree, more letters, but in the meantime could it be Mconor i.e Maconagh. Could she spell her name, would the writer know how to spell it ?

While we wait for batty to return, a look in the census. Seem to be after a Mary Ann married to a Mr Silvey, who was probably a Carpenter.

Is it 'H' as the first letter - Hearn? Heanor?

Thanks for the suggestions and Ian I had thought about buying another child's certificate, but apart from the cost as it's the same register office and close in date it would probably be the same registrar with the same terrible writing.

I don't blame you for not forking out again.
I've looked for a marriage, but can't find anything remotely likely.
Charles seems to have died later in 1851. Mary Ann possibly died in Lambeth workhouse in 1852? I've trawled through the Lambeth settlement exam books (which are indexed), quite expecting to find her, but no Silveys at all.

Sorry to be a pain Batty, but I can hardly see the new photos. Can you do one in focus. I have been trawling my ususal haunts for name solving. Surname Fleonor exists, but my money is still on a Mconor (spelt now possibly Maconagh). There are the same number of up and down strokes as the M. The signature square looks as though it has a lot of writing in it, but it's out of shot. They look as though they're potato famine refugees, terrible times...sadly it looks as though young Thomas didn't make it. Jim
