Service in China

Fri Jul 22, 2016 1:28 pm

My grandfather's older brother served in the army before WW1 and I was told he went to China. I can't find any record for this but I have his WW1 details:

Name Henry Harry (M.M.) Lovelock
Military Year 1914-1920
Rank Gunner
Medal Awarded British War Medal and Victory Medal
Regiment or Corps Royal Garrison Artillery
Regimental Number 34267
Previous Units 282 Sge. Bty. R.G.A. 34267 Gnr.

In 1911 he was in Great Yarmouth and is listed as a gunner:

Name Henry Harry Lovelock
Age in 1911 19
Estimated Birth Year abt 1892
Birth Place Tottenham, Middlesex
Civil parish Great Yarmouth
County/Island Norfolk
Country England
Street Address Royal Artillery Barracks, Admiralty Road, Gt Yarmouth
Marital Status Single
Military Unit 4th Depot Royal Garrison Artillery

DOB: 1892 Tottenham

I can't find reference to him being in China. Any ideas?

His attestations papers can be found on FindMyPast and say he joined the Royal Artillery in 1911. No mention of China under the campaign heading though. Just that he received the BW and V medals.

His attestations papers can be found on FindMyPast

Can you give me a clue? All I can see is the RA register of attestations and can't spot the actual attestation papers.

BUT what the above record does say is that he served after 1921. The significance of this is that his service record has not been released but can be obtained from the Ministry of Defence.
