Uttoxetter area photo ?

Postby crimble » Tue May 17, 2016 10:10 am

We recently discovered this original photograph in a old dresser here on the Isle of Wight and would love to find out it's history. It has the photographers name embossed " McCann. Uttoxetter "
On first inspection it looks as though it is a reunion or maybe old boys cricket match (striped blazers uniform )but after initial research on the web we are wondering if maybe it is connected to Denstone College? Maybe a connection to the War Memorial ? Maybe mid 1920's. We would love your thoughts on this. Enlarge the photo and the detail and people really become alive. thank you.

I don't know anything specific, but agree that the fellows in striped blazers and open necked shirts look as if they have been engaged in some sporting activity. I also note that 6 of the men in the seated row are wearing 'dog collars', so are churchmen.

So you could be right in that it is an 'old boys' or other occasion for an Anglican School.
