Well spotted Adrian. I wrote the Stellenbosch detail down but for some reason, didn't copy it into my post. If Isaac stayed in Cape Town, is it possible his brother joined him out there?

Sadly never found any marriage or death data for either brother in South Africa. Although now believe both brothers emigrated I wonder if they moved on to the Antipodes.

Had a complete rethink about Charles Edward Marshall. No longer sure he served in the Boer War. Gone back to basics, birth 1876 in Great Yarmouth and last definite known location of Richmond, Surrey, comes from the 1901 census. What happened to him afterwards and where did he go.....
Can any member help me with this brick wall?

Isaac Ernest Marshall was discharged in South Africa after service in the British army in the Anglo-Boer war. Sadly that's where the trail goes cold. Named Isaac after his father he appears to have used Ernest as his premier forename on occasions. Can any member please suggest South African sources that might help me find him? Are there any South African censuses online?

Most useful of the South African records are "Death Information" forms - these continue to be indexed by Familysearch and added to their database.
Another possible source is NAAIRS - to search the South African Archives. http://www.national.archsrch.gov.za/sm300cv/smws/sm300dl
