York and Lancaster baton

My father was in the York and Lancaster regiment 7th btn I am trying to find out info or photos
He was born in 1917 and I have one photo of him at 17 in his uniform

So far as I can see, the 7th Battalion (Pioneers) was in existence from 1940 -1946. If this so, he wouldn't have been in the 7th Battalion at age 17.

For his service record, you need to apply to the Ministry of Defence.
