Hi can anyone help with this photo please? I found it in a box of photos and letters belonging to my grandmother and have no idea who these are. She is wearing a very strange hat! Could anyone possibly date this? Thank you.

By the way the lady is sitting, she is showing part of a leg. I may be wrong, but that suggests to me that the photo was taken possibly in the 1920s or 1930s. Skirts were much shorter after the 1WW so I do not think it was taken earlier. Not sure about the hat. I have some photos taken in the 1920s where the ladies are wearing (by today's fashions) quite unusual hats. Hope that is a little help.

she has a connection with lawn bowls, she has one in her hand ,the bag is for the bowls and the strange hat has bowls all round it so the photo is probably taken when she won something.

I agree that there is a bowling connection. If you have a surname for your grandmother and there is a local bowling club in the vicinity of where she lived, then do get in touch as there is a possibility that someone else might have a copy of the same photo, or someone who collects bowling ephemera.

Are there any photos of the same child in other snaps, which might identify the child, who could be of either sex?

The lady is not my grandmother, I gave no idea who she is. Very interesting points about bowling and will look into this. In the 1920's my grandmother lived in Southend on Sea do maybe something to do with that area. Thank you so much for your replies x
