Sarah Simmons birth and 1911 census info

Postby Mariner Aus » Tue Feb 03, 2015 12:48 am

Hi there

Could anyone help me find Sarah Simmons bith information and her location in the 1911 census? She married Michael Lennon (age 34) on the 13th June 1933 in Birkenhead. Her father was Thomas Simmons (deceased by 1933) and his profession was dock labourer. Sarah's age was given as 28 and her professon daily servant. Her address at the time of marriage was: 86 Borough Rd Wallasey.

Thanking you in advance for any help you may give!

Regards

Pieter

There's a Thomas R Simmons , dock labourer born Jersey 1855, daughter,Sarah, and son,John, here:
RG14 6020 18

Sarah is 5 years older than the marriage you have indicates , but she may have wanted to appear younger than she was. I haven't been able to take this any further and there is no birthplace given for the children.

I was just going to post when I saw ColinB's reply, but here's what I found anyway:
1911, French Street, Southampton, Hampshire
Thomas R Simmons, boarder, 56 (1855) dock labourer, b Jersey, Channel Islands
John Simmons, boarder, son, 10 (1901), no birthplace stated
Sarah Simmons, boarder, daughter, 12 (1899), no birthplace stated.

In 1901, Thomas is a boarder in St Michael’s, Hampshire, a dock worker, widower, age 49, and surname spelled Symons. Son ‘Johnny’ is with him, aged 2, birthplace now given as Southampton, but no Sarah. Thomas was a widower in 1901, so presumably Sarah was being cared for somewhere, but I can’t find her until she appears as his daughter in 1911.

This family could just be coincidence of course, and it’s possible Sarah was born outside England (Ireland?) and that Thomas didn’t arrive here with his family until after the 1911 census.

Incidentally, just in case, there’s a birth entry for Sarah Ann Symons, JQ 1901, Southampton 2c 16.
