Justice of the Peace (Pedantry)

Great article by Paul Blake in the December issue on Summary Courts. Have to take issue with the proof reading though - there are many Courts, many Justices but only one Peace. Hence we have Justices of the Peace, which should be abbreviated to JsP, not JPs which is Justice of the Peaces!! :)

Ouch. As a paid up member of Pedants Anonymous, I wish to confess to using JPs myself. Along with "PIN number" and referring to "the TNA website".

Adrian - Frankly I don't see how we are to avoid the last of your examples as TNA insisted on capitalizing their use of definite article. PIN number - grr, I suppose you also refer to an ATM machine? These are so entrenched, what hope is there for better understanding?

It's a good point, Sylvia – we'll remember it for next time!
