Negative

Postby laura simpson » Sun Dec 07, 2014 8:54 pm

I have a very old negative and would like to get it developed. Does anyone have any suggestions as to where I might be able to get this done please? I am assuming that a specialist phtography business would be able to help with this, but do not know or have any idea, as to who to approach. Any help or suggestions would be very helpful.

If you know someone with scanner that has a photographic adapter, ask them to scan it for you. I've just spent the last month scanning negatives from early 1900s at 1200 dpi on my Epson Perfection 3170 (no longer had). It has a removable panel in the lid; on film setting, there is lighting in the top panel as well.

Snappy snaps might be able to help you if you have one near.

I came across an advert in my local family history magazine - I looked up the website and it seems just what you want. It is www.slides2disk.co.uk or tel: 01708 735810. They do all sorts of things so would probably be able to help you.

Laura, try your local photographic society.

If you have an iPad there are apps for converting photos of negatives into positives

Thank you to those who have taken the time and trouble to reply and offer help and advice. I am sorry that it has taken so long to respond - one or two problems with my laptop, huge repair for the car and a period of illness has not helped.

But laptop and car now fixed and running!

The two negatives in question, are in the hands of my cousin who seems very reluctant to let them go. I have asked again if I could have sight of them for a while and await a response. When they are in my possession, I will post another reply.

Thank you once again,

I have now had the negatives developed and got them done at Jessops. I have to say that the process of getting them developed gave me more grey hairs and wrinkles - they are booked in at the shop, then they are sent to Head Office where they are again booked in, then they get sent to Jessops warehouse. When sufficient photos are received and it is financially viable, they are then sent to a processing plant in Germany! It took a while but I was very pleased to get them back in my hands. And the pictures themselves were of a high quality considering the age of the negatives.

But thanks again for all those who took the time and trouble to reply to my original request.
