Photo stamp in a pocket watch

Postby tinaj64 » Sun Nov 30, 2014 6:47 pm

Please can you help identify this picture. My father Edwin McEwan was orphaned as a baby in 1936 and brought up by his mothers family in England. Her name was Edna Webster. I inherited this pocket watch when he died nearly 16 years ago. There is a 'photo stamp' inside and I would like to try and identify the lady from an approximate date. We are fairly sure she is one of Dad's Scottish ancestors and would love to know which one. His fathers name was Edwin Hunter McEwan, son of Robert Prince McEwan, all from Glasgow

Realistically, the chances of anyone reading your post recognising this lady are incredibly slim.

You would probably do better to try and research the ancestors and find out if any of them is on any family trees on line. If you find any then I suggest you contact the tree owners and see if they can put a name to the face. It may be that they have other photos of the individual and can identify her.

Many thanks for your comments.

I have quite a bit of information on the family, but am having trouble dating the photograph. If I can get a rough date and possible age of the sitter, then I can make a best guess on which family member she could be

Perforations were first added to postage stamps in 1854.

Thank you for your response, quite excited to work out which ancestor she might be

I'm no expert, but looking at her dress, I would go for a date between 1900-1910.
