1st Survey Regt, Artillery, 1939-1945

My grandfathers Army records show he served with the 1st Survey Regiment, Artillery. His name is Albert Anderson. He was sent to France in May of 1939 as part of the British Expeditionary Force. Further deployments sent him to the Middle East, Burma and India, to mention a few. At the time of him leaving in 1946 he was a Sergeant in the Artillery.

I would really like to get more information on their duties, and his actual job in that Regiment, and maybe even someone with us today that served in that unit would be unbelievable. Any form of information relating to this Regiment at that time would be amazing.

You may have found this already: lists the Survey Regiments with their deployments.

Frankly this sounds such a rare subject that you'd probably be better going to one of the WW2 forums such as There are a few mentions in there of Survey Regiments: mentions a part of 1st Survey Regiment is a detailed list of the official establishment for Survey Regiments.

Suggest you have a look there and work out where to post your query.

Perhaps take a trip to the Royal Artillery museum, Firepower. They also have an extensive library.
