Help identifying uniform.

I am at a loss at to which rank or regiment
this relative served in. I'm not even sure which war. I think Boer war or Great War.

My initial thought was cavalry.

Thanks

If you type in 'British Army uniforms' into your search engine, several sites come up that may be of use. Lots of images etc. hope that helps a bit. That he is carrying a sword might indicate he was an officer. I don't think lower ranks would have done - may be wrong but ... Anything is worth investigating.

My impression is that there are so many dress uniforms differing subtly that you need to try one of the specialist forums such as the Victorian Wars Forum. Bearing in mind that it may not be Victorian. ...

I second Adrian's advice to post your pic to the Victorian Wars Forum. However, for what it's worth, and noting the 'hat' I suggest that the uniform belongs to one of the Hussar regiments.

There is a photo here http://www.badsey.net/wickhamford/lm.htm of George Lee-Milne wearing similar, but different, uniform, but note that the caption includes the comment: "Yeomanry Regiments had uniforms based on regular cavalry design, usually Hussars but sometimes Lancers or Dragoons. "
So, your Jack Box may have been in a Yeomanry Regt!

Purely by luck I found several photos of Hussars with jackets embroidered in a very similar fashion. The sword may be a cavalry sabre (no I don't know what the difference is! ) and this was used by all hussars, both officers and enlisted men. But as Sylvia suggests, other units may have copied.

Thank you for the replies.
The Royal North Devon Yeomanry seems to fit. I think from the photo, Jack is in his late 20's/early 30's which would place him there during or after the Boer War.
