Well I've failed to get through them all again within the hour!

TigerTabby and CooperNicola, thank you for responding, it was my pleasure and I hope the answers prove fruitful for you in any further research. I hope the archives trip goes well for you as well Nicola, I always love going down there, it's a shame I don't get to do it that often.

I can't say for certain when I'll next be back in to answer the remaining questions. While I'd love to spend all day looking at photographs the bosses would not best pleased.

Thank you so much for your help. Unfortunately I don't have the original of the photo so probably can't get a higher resolution version. I will have a look at the record you found to see if there are any clues as to whether it is the right man.
