This is David Neal b. 1851 emigrated to NSW 1853. First mention after that is a UK record of 1878 in
Gorleston, Great Yarmouth. This is the only photo I have of him. I have tried to compare with Norfolk Regiment photos but have been told it may be a yeomanry uniform. I'm stuck - any pointers please ?

Don't know much about this period but it could be a Militia uniform. Have you noticed the two long service strips on his left arm?. Have considered finding out what British army units were serving in New Zealand at that time.?. Jeff Ward.

Thank you - good lateral thinking, I have searched locally. It may also explain how he made his passage to u.k. Spurred me in another direction. thanks.
