Eva Hart b1848 Manchester

Postby kobie » Thu Sep 18, 2014 10:51 am

Hi

My gt gt grandfather Reuben Bromwich b 1832 Warwick ,married for a second time in 1875 to an Eva Hart. (St Martin in the Fields) . On the marriage cert (says she is Spinster) she gives her fathers name as John Hart Bootmaker.
In 1871 census she is living in Camberwell (Married ?) with a daughter Maud Hart b 1869.
I have a copy of a letter (proof of age) saying that she did not register birth of Maud as she was ill at the time and gives Maud's birth as 1865.
I have just got birth certificates of two of her sons and she says her name is Eva Bromwich formerly Wilson.
Reuben died in 1893 & his daughter witnessed the death.

I am unable to find her before 1871 or after 1891 .

Any help would be appreciated

Hi Jane,
this is a strange one. I found them in 1881 & 1891, a weird host of names in 1881.
I have searched through various sites without much luck.
There is an Eva Mary Bromwich(k) in 1911, but she has her age as 47, should be 63. It does state Manchester as her birthplace same as 1881 and she is a widow. 50-51, Upper Bedford Place, St. Giles a cook domestic.
I can find no Eva Hart marrying a Wilson, there are two John Hart boot or shoe makers in Manchester in 1851& 1861 neither have a daughter Eva.
regards
Brian

I have a few ideas for you but at the moment I would like to state that the Eva Bromwich 47 in the census of 1911 was "assume" daughter of your Eva Hart Bromwich. In the 1891 census the family is listed on one page but too many to complete so on the next page of census you find the name of her daughter Eva.

Hi

Thanks for that but Eva Bromwich (daughter of Eva Hart) is transcribed as Eva Bromavich in 1911 who is living with Hugo Conrad in St Pancras, who she later marries.

I have been searching this for a few years and still no closer to knowing what happened to her

I know Eva said she was born in Manchester, but although it's possible she's listed in Manchester in 1851, in a part of that census that's unreadable because of water damage, there doesn't seem to be a birth or baptism entry for her there. The best I can come up with in Lancashire is this 1861 census entry: EA Hart, boarder aged 13 (1848) b Preston, but I can't find a birth entry in Preston for an Eva/Eve/Evelyn.
