I agree with Adrian - I would not be too worried about a variation in the census dates , that is fairly commonplace. The baptism and other records I quoted come from the registers , images not transcripts. The next nearest baptism of a Samuel Ellis in Lamerton was in 1796 so I think he can be safely ruled out.

Thank you both, you have confirmed what I thought. Although quite new to this I have learnt to use the images of census forms not the summaries, to use other trees a a possible lead to be confimed independantly. I get annoyed when I see trees that have copied things which are so obviously wrong.

I think we have the same Samuel we are looking for. If so, Samuel was in Tavistock in 1841. He was a mine laborer living with a Daniel and Sarah Westaway. Hope this is helpful. I see your post is several years old.
