Parish Records

Postby natz300 » Wed Mar 12, 2008 1:40 am

I have recently had details confirmed for me on the Gravett family from Romsey in Hampshire and want to know where the parish records are held for this area. are they still in the parish church or somewhere else? Also if it is possible to get copys of parish records and where abouts i can get them from? If the records were still in the church could i just visit and ask to see the records for myself and ask for a copy or do i need to go through other channels? The records i am after are from the the very early 1800's and possibly back further if i can trace back further than this.

The records for Romsey would be found in the Hampshire Record Office
Sussex Street, Winchester, Hampshire SO23 8TH
Tel 01962 846154, but they are closed until 14 April when a new Archives and Local Studies Centre opens.

Hampshire is one of the counties selling PRs on microfiche.

I have some limited Parish Registers for Romsey at home which I could search for you, if you could let me have the details.
