Cyclists from Thorverton, Devon

Postby coopernicola » Sun Feb 02, 2014 5:25 pm

Can any one help with a possible date for the photo of these cyclists. It was kindly given to me some time ago, by the Thorverton Parish Clerk, when I started my research. I would like to figure out just who the men are. I think the bicycles look more 1910 than 1900?

I can't help with exact dates for the bicycles but you could try contacting Coventry Transport Museum, they have a large collection of bicycles as well as motor cycles and cars as Coventry was the home of the industry for many years.

I hope this helps

Thanks for the advice, I should have thought of the museum in Coventry.

I looked on Ancestry and found that there were a lot of people called Greenslade living in Thorverton. I just put in the surname and a rough date of birth 1880. I was not so lucky with the other names. They didn't come up as being in Thorverton but they may come from other parts of Devon. Hope that is of some help.

Thanks for this, I do have a rough idea of who 'Bullen' & 'Greenslade' are as I have already got details from Thorverton in 1901/11. The biggest problem is which Knapman (possibly the one who is a relative). I have not found a likely candidate for 'Cornish' though.
