WWI Uniform - black button

Postby markashleypatt » Sat Dec 28, 2013 9:35 pm

I have a photo if my Great Grandpa with his regiment, sporting a a black button which I have come to learn is mark of respect for a next of kin.

Was this a mark of respect purely for a family member who served in the military or was this just a general mark of respect to anyone in a family?

Many thanks,

Mark
