Two brother's are eluding me.

Postby pforkes » Tue Dec 10, 2019 4:50 am

I am going to need the help of you guys, again.

This time I Am looking for two brothers, each of whom has an uncommon first name.

Israel Garwood.
Israel Garwood was born arguing 1837 in Brockley, Suffolk around 1837.
On 23 November 1859 he married Elizabeth Swallows Hick at St. John the Baptist, Shoreditch, London.
In the 1861 census and the 1871 census, they were living in St. Pancras, London.
They had four children (that I know of):
1860 - George Joseph Garwood.
1863 - Elizabeth Ann Garwood.
1869 - George Frederick Garwood.
1876 - Louisa Ada Garwood.

My question about Israel Garwood is "what happened to him after 1876 (which his 4th child was born)?"

Ezra Garwood.
Israel’s older brother was Ezra Garwood.
Ezra Garwood was born about 1834 in Brockley, Suffolk. He was christened on 12 January 1835 in Brockley.
In the 1851 census, he is living in Brockley with his parents.
After the 1851 census, I cannot find anything about him.

My question about Ezra Garwood is "what happened to him after the 1851 census?"

Thanks,

Peter

Ianbee..

There are a couple on 1891 33 Peckwater st, St Pancras. Elizabeth and William ( B 1827) is a Painter with a visitor, Louisa Hicks.

**** Indexed on Ancestry as Fale, easier to look for Louisa Hicks.

Well done!
So something seems to have happened with Israel Garwood circa 1877, and Elizabeth appears to have married Mr Foale in 1880.

Where is Israel Garwood before his marriage in 1859?
Could Ezra and Israel be the same person?

Only death in Pancras in the relevant period seems to be a William Garwood, Dec qtr 1876, age 42. Buried 26 October 1876.

Good point, Ezra isn't a lot different to Israel if you say it in a Suffolk accent..

Looking at the spelling on the 1871 it's strange..... looks like Esarah.

George Fredericks marriage in 1888, he's at 65 Peckwater st..
