Missing Births and Deaths From Search Results

Postby Selva » Sat Dec 07, 2019 2:53 pm

I keep coming up against the same problem every time I do a search.

Example. My great, great grandmother Emily Ellis, apparently born in Fleetwood, Lancashire in 1858 however I can find no record of her birth there.

I know she married my great, great grandfather Thomas Towers who was born somewhere in Leicestershire in 1859 and they moved to Dublin, Ireland. They are on the census there in 1901 however yet again I can find no death registration for him or her.

Strange thing is when using Findmypast it shows a hint for a death in 1921 but the age is 4 years out. However if I search for that same person given in the hint it comes up with zero results, even if I expand the time range to +/- 5 years and the search area to 20 miles. How can that be? Where are the so called "hints" coming from if I can find no record for that person in any searches?

All these conflicts make it very difficult to match details. I just keep going around in circles.

Also would I be correct in thinking any deaths after 1968/69 are not online?

Perhaps someone here can shed a little light on this.

I believe that Find My Past has recently added death records to 2000ish......

According to the 1901 census (122 Grove Road (Rathmines, Dublin), both Thomas and Emily's birthplace is Ireland. Unless this is the wrong Towers family?

Thanks all for the replies. Problem is all the conflicting birth dates.

My grandfather, Michael Towers who was married to Sarah Murphy has no birth record that corresponds to the date I have which is 1876 however, there is a baptism record for a Michael Towers in Dublin for 1876. So...confused again :(

The only records I am absolutely sure about are as far as my maternal and paternal grandparents. After that things get confused.

I am going on what my mother told us before she passed away and also my uncle, who is happily still alive and in his 90's :) However he is on my mothers side of the family and has very little concrete information about my father's family.

The lack of info I think is In part because of the amount of records that were lost in the Dublin customs house fires in 1921 but also because as far as I can tell, record keeping was not an exact science in Ireland? ;)

I do remember my mother saying that my father's family were originally from England. But is that true? Not sure.

Maybe some of my relatives couldn't remember or didn't actually know their exact birth dates? Or where they were born?

Does anyone think a DNA test might help? I have been thinking about doing one for some time now.
