Angus & Roger Begg - sons of Kenneth & Isabel Begg

Postby phsvm » Mon Nov 04, 2019 5:05 pm

A slightly unuual request here but can anyone help?

Kenneth (b.1903) and Isabel Begg (nee Harries, b. 1911) were married almost certainly abroad although her family were from the UK - she was born in Staffordshire.

There are numerous passenger lists showning her entering and leaving the UK. Her death appears to have been in South Africa although as I don't have a world subsciption to Ancestry I can't actually look at the index.

The couple had two sons, both born in the UK - Roger Andrew N Begg in 1935 and Angus T in 1942.

I am trying to find either Roger or Angus as part of a project I am doing relating to the grave of their great aunt who died in France whilst serving with the Red Cross in 1918.

Can anyone help? Could Roger or Angus be abroad? Perhaps bearing in mind how recent this is a PM would be best.

Hi
There is a possible death for Kenneth Andrew Begg in Cadiz in 1972
Will National Wills of England and Wales registered Cape Town
Died 25 Oct 1972 of Torre Guadiaro Appartments Malaga
£23464 England and Wales sealed London 6 Aug 1973

There is a possibility that the younger son is now living in Newcastle upon Tyne.

Obviously I don't know if it is the same man.Info available on 192.com.
I'd have to pay and as you say it is quite recent so I'm a bit wary of passing the info on.

Bio Notes: Kenneth Andrew Begg was born on 27 February 1903, the son of architect John Begg (born 1866 at Bo'ness), who was at the time working as consulting architect to the Government of Bombay and later practised in Edinburgh. The younger Begg attended classes at the School of Architecture, Edinburgh College of Art, from October 1922 until 1928, and was a pupil of Dick Peddie & Walker Todd in 1924 and 1925. In June 1928 he was granted an exemption from the RIBA final exam, and in the same year won the Rowand Anderson Silver Medal and a £100 travelling studentship which allowed him to tour Scotland and France for three months. Prior to that time he had also visited Lincoln, Northamptonshire, Gloucestershire and Yorkshire.

He was admitted ARIBA in early 1929, his proposers being his father, Frank Charles Mears and Charles Denny Carus-Wilson. At that time he was living with his father at 94 Inverleith Place and working in the Mears & Carus-Wilson office. After two years there he returned to London to work as chief assistant to Laurence Mursell Gotch, but in 1936 he left Britain again to commence practice as a principal in Madras, Southern India, in the partnership of Edwards, Reid & Begg. He retired from that partnership in 1939 to join H M Forces, and on his demobilisation in 1945 became Chief Architect to the Government of Uganda. He was admitted FRIBA in 1951, his proposers being Henry Kendall, G B E Norburn and N Thornley Dyer.

Thank you for all this information.

I had found the Angus Begg in Newcastle upon Tyne. I have confirmed he died in 2008.
