Military Man Photo Identity

Postby steves » Wed Jan 30, 2019 3:49 pm

Hello everyone.
I'm trying to establish the identity of the soldier on horseback. It came from a box of photos belonging to my late mother and is likely to be either her father, or one of her five brothers, all of whom were in the British Army.
Her father (my grandfather) was born in 1879, so if the photo is from the WW1 period, it's possible that the soldier in the photo is too young!
The brothers were born 1902, 1909, 1910, 1914 and 1915, if that's of any help.
Many thanks in advance for any clues.

You have not given us much of a clue with names etc so difficult to offer much help. Have you looked for service records for any of the family?

My suspicion is that you need to go to a specialist military history forum, because the differences between WW1 era uniforms and the interwar uniforms are subtle - beyond me, I'm afraid.

Try the Rootschat board on https://www.rootschat.com/forum/armed-forces/ for instance.
