St Thomas Church, Lambeth

Postby carlea » Sun Jun 15, 2014 6:19 am

Does anyone have any photos of the St Thomas Church, Lambeth?
It was located on the corner of Pearman St & Westminster Bridge Rd, Lambeth, London.
Not the St Thomas Church at to St Thomas Hospital.
The Pearman St Church was damaged in WW2 by bombs.
My grandparents were married there in 1919.
I would love to see what it looked like inside & outside.
I hope someone can help.

I googled St Thomas Church Pearman Street, got several hits. Importantly there is a pdf document put out by the Diocese of Southwark http://www.southwark.anglican.org/downloads/lostchurches/LAM12.pdf in which they state that they have not yet found a photograph of the building and appealing for help!

I suspect that the most likely way to find one will be to track down a postcard which depicts the church.
Good luck! Sylvia

Try churchplansonline.org if you go to 'simple search' then 'L' scroll down to Lambeth, St Thomas and click you'll get a plan and an engraving of the church.

Thanks Sylvia & Coopernicola for your replies & suggestions to my inquiry.
I did downloaded a sketch & floor plan of St Thomas Church built by Samuel S Teulon, many years ago but have never come across any actual photos of the church.
Maybe some day in the future photos or postcards will surface from someone which will be great.
Thanks again

I have a picture of the inside of St. Thomas Lambeth Church. I am related to a former vicar of this church, and there were pictures inside of some family collections. I can't seem to upload it here, but send me a private message and I will email you a copy.

It might be worth trying English Heritage. A small portion of their photos are online but you can also request a free search of the archives.

Photo of doorway St Thomas church corner of Pearman street SE1. Taken May 2nd 1931 my parents wedding. Quality not great and sadly only the doorway but it may be the only known surviving picture of this church. My mother lived in Frazier Street Campbell Buildings as did I much later.
