Can I make the suggestion that your IT suppliers put a daily limit on the number of posts by any one user?

Not sure what that limit should be but you can probably assess the daily number of posts by your more prolific responders.

It's either that or have 24x7 monitoring of this thread.... :-(

Hi Adrian,

I'm sorry for the high number of spam posts left here yesterday. We have spam filters in place that are meant to prevent this, but obviously they didn't work today. We have now deleted and blocked those particular users and added increased anti-spam protections, including increasing the interval users must wait between posting new messages and the delay before new users are allowed to include links in their posts. Thank you for your feedback.

Best wishes,

Rosemary

Thanks Rosemary. I appreciate that it's never easy to monitor for spam and you have a fine line to steer between inhibiting the morons and accidentally stopping prolific posters helping out.

Your actions seem a good approach.

I've just updated the app, to my horror every other post is a GIANT highly illustrated very tacky looking spam. Each one says Sponsored so I can only conclude they're authorised by WDYTYA.
They're even appearing at the end of every single post!
There are even ads promoting gambling, which given that some contributors have ancestors who have been victims of gambling, some even committed crime or suicided I find this absolutely disgusting.
This intrusive advertising has completely spoiled what was an interesting and informative forum.
Not only that I'm now extremely worried about security of the app and especially my privacy given that some ads are clearly New Zealand directed.
Please, Please can we go back to how the forum was before this latest update. Its now horrible!
Thank you

Hi,

We're sorry to hear you've had a bad experience using the app. These ads are NOT authorised by WDYTYA?, but by the third party company which built the forum app. Unfortunately to be able to offer a free app, they have to allow a degree of advertising to cover costs. However, we certainly do not want the advertising to be intrusive to the point that the app is hard to use, and we will look into what we can do to address your concerns. In the meantime, if you want to continue using the forum you can do so via your desktop computer for an ad-free experience.

I suspect this message about new celebrities by lamyuxen is a spam message:
