Websites/pages about Family History Photos

Postby WarksAncestors » Mon Sep 11, 2017 11:40 am

I am compiling a list of websites/webpages that have a connection with Family History photographs in any of it's forms. If you have used a useful page or have a page of your own that contains your ancestors photographs then please get in touch! I am particularly interested in military photographs and any connected with Leicestershire.
Thank you!

One website I use regularly is the Forest of Dean Family History Trust site. As well as brilliant forum with very knowledgable contributors there's a wealth of resources, including photos of the area.

Have a browse here: http://www.forest-of-dean.net/joomla/in ... to-gallery Obviously its Gloucestershire not Warwickshire, but it gives you an idea of what other people do.

WarksAncestors - as has been pointed out before, your posts are impossible to read due to the size of the avatar which overrides the words!

No problems viewing this post on my iPhone or iPad ... perhaps it's just an issue with web browsers?

Janey - looks like it's been fiddled. In the WDYTYA app on Android, the avatars are just the Android robot. In the Web View on Android - which is, I think, still an app, but one that looks more like the web browser, there are no avatars at all. In the Chrome web browser on Android, the avatar overlaps a big area of text. I think that the web browser on Windows 10 suffers similarly. It's not a browser fault - that is what happens when the size of the avatar is that big.

Adrian, it may not be a browser problem per-se, but the webpage coding needs amending. The iPad app code handles the large avatar fine, and shrinks it to fit, but the coding for web-browsers need modifying, so that the same thing happens there, then large avatars won't encroach on other text areas.
The other alternative is for the user to use a smaller avatar. But saying that, how many users would have the technical knowledge to do that. Far simpler for the page coding to be amended to handle it :)

I have a few pages you might be interested in on various websites.

The first contains transcripts of my uncle’s letters back from the front in WW II

This also contains transcripts of letters from his C.O. expressing condolences on his death in action.
