One of the oldest photos I own believed to be my G.G.G.Grand father.
If anyone can offer any information about the badges/medals or possible date of the photo so I can match with the correct family member in my tree.
I know the badges on the his right arm means stoker.

The medals appear to be the Egypt Medal 1882-89, the Khedive's Star and lastly, possibly, the Royal Naval Long Service and Good Conduct medal. So dates this picture post 1889. You may possibly find his records at the National Archvie or on some of the subscription sites.

I'd agree. It's either G. H. Roberts or C. H. Roberts.

Given that this sailor is dressed in "square rig", his three Good Conduct Badges (one for each four year period of good conduct)and his rating badges of a Petty Officer, this would make him an acting Petty Officer Stoker who after one year would have been confirmed as a Petty Officer and then permitted to wear "fore and aft rig" The medals suggest end of the 19th century and the one nearest the arm is almost certainly the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal as has been suggested earlier.
Try the National Archives who hold many service records in their system (at a cost)

My husband, a long-serving Naval Chief Petty Officer himself, concurs with the post above. This sailor is definitely not a CPO yet.
