Help with Royal Navy reference

Postby gillashcroft1 » Mon Feb 20, 2017 12:54 pm

Hi
In wonder if anyone can help with the RN reference on a marriage certificate. The person in question, Gordon Coward, was a hairdresser in civilian life and I assume from this certificate (pictured) he was a hairdresser in the Royal Navy, but I don't understand the letters and numbers. I was thinking the D/Mx 559850 might be his service number. Any help on interpretation would be appreciated.
Many thanks
Gill

P/SBA Probationary Sick Berth Attendant?

D/MX 559850 - I would imagine you are right in saying it's his service number. Might be more to the D/MX.
D = Devonport?

Thanks Ian. I'm going to try and see if I can get a service record with that possible number.
