My great grandfather came from Poland in the eighteen nineties. My late father was able to get some very detailed death information about his grandfather's family from Poland. He got a Polish friend to help him write to Poland. When the information arrived he had to use a translation service so he could read the documents, but it was well worth it. His Polish friend had died by then. I am sure that now you can find the addresses of the relevent registries on line.
